MPC 1000 Update 2 of many
Category: Lab
I went out and got my hard drive and ram, and added these to the MPC. I also started the process of moving over samples and loops. In all I have transferred more than 15 GB of WAV samples to the hard drive. One thing that I have noticed is that long filenames are not handled properly.
For example, I have transferred the Apple Loops collections and when I get to the screen to chop a sample and or assign it to a pad on the MPC I see a list like this:
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Hungarian Oboe Sample
Although the actual list may look like this in Windows
Hungarian Oboe Sample 1 of 10 (Muted)
Hungarian Oboe Sample 2 of 10 (Muted)
Hungarian Oboe Sample 3 of 10 (Muted)
Hungarian Oboe Sample 4 of 10 (Muted)
Hungarian Oboe Sample 5 of 10 (Muted)
Hungarian Oboe Sample 6 of 10 (Muted)
The problem gets worse when you try to play one of the sounds, well 2 of the sounds. What happens is the system sends out the command to play the sound from "Hungarian Oboe Sample" even if I am selecting the 3rd one on the list. The Command gets sent out "Hungarian Oboe Sample".
My solution, one I havent even tried yet, is to run a windows application on the folders, to convert the filenames to dos 8.3 compliance. This gives the WAV titled "Hungarian Oboe Sample 6 of 10 (Muted).wav" would be changed to "Hungaran~6.wav".
My hope is that this will work and I can get back to choppin samples and making beats, with or without my trusty Hungarian Oboe. I found an app that should allow me to make this change, it is called fileboss Download it here. My only hope is that it works and doesnt choke on my folders that have in some cases more than 4,000 wav files.
