DRM Steal Bytes
Category: Soapbox
Microsoft has decided to dump all of the DRM agreements with people who purchased music from the MSN music service. So what now, well I have an idea...
It was never my purpose to just come out with this idea and propose to everyone that it still works, but it does. FairUse4WM is an application that will remove DRM from windows media audio files that have been purchased through various services, MSN music and URGE are two of those services.
Before I move into how to get around this nasty little issue let me explain. If you were a responsible music listener and you downloaded and purchased tracks for your pleasure from one of these online markets, you would be placed in a bad spot in the next few months. The magic behind the DRM that microsoft was using was that they essentially would be informed whenever you wanted to listen, share, move, or copy the music that you were purchasing. And now that we are speaking purchasing, lets move to renting, because that is basically the idea.
So lets say that you purchased 30 songs and you had more than 300 that you had subscribed to through the service; in a few short months those songs will expire, they may never play again, you may never get to use them in this way ever again....
What to do....
Fair Use 4 WM will allow you to remove the DRM from the audio file thus allowing you to freely do whatever you FAIRLY would like to do. So find it, use it, and free your music... This is yet another example on how DRM is pitiful.
Don't say I never offered up any good advice.
