Another day in the studio
Category: Lab
My first Pro Tools track was completed this week, I wanted to use the track as a test to see how behind the learning curve I am. The results were okay, but not great.
Saturday morning I got a call from a good friend, Black Rob Base Williams. He wanted to bring his cousin and his cousin's friend into the studio to check out what I was up to. I agreed and told them to come through. What happened was hours of fun.
Rob demanded that they had to contribute in some way to the creative process that was going on in the lab. They seemed a little afraid to get in there and write a verse, so I called in for "Black Fate" to come out to drop a verse real quick. They all spent about a half an hour working on verses and I got Pro Tools setup for recording.
What I love best about non prepared verses is that when we are all left to our devices, we will be ourselves; everyone had time to listen to the same music and decide how to express themselves.
After we recorded 3 people we had to add a hook and I was called on to come up with a verse so I had to put it down. We did real rough recording, so please forgive the mistakes. No punch ins were allowed.
So this is what happens with freetime and cats from Toledo and Springfield.
I hope you enjoy, later this week we will have the well-mixed version.

Joe,
You should check out a girl from my work that sings. She's always on the lookout for some good beats. I put together her website (in-progress) and she's super talented.
